Native C.H.A.T. & The Office of Minority Health
Native CHAT stands for Curbing HIV/AIDS Transmission, it is a Native youth program that addresses substance abuse and HIV prevention using a peer education model. Native youth participants learn to become peer educators after completing a 16 week program that includes traditional culture, risk prevention messages and health education. The Native CHAT program is funded by the Office of Minority Health. The CHAT program and OMH are working to increase awareness of the major health problems of racial and ethnic minorities and factors that influence health; 2) establish and strengthen networks, coalitions, and partnerships to identify and solve health problems; 3) develop and promote policies, programs, and practices to eliminate health disparities and achieve health equity.
